Improvisation, opera, and sketch comedy intersect at Forte Chicago. This troupe of directors, puppeteers, designers, and classically-trained musicians explores the place of the modern female in the world of classical music and seeks to give the trained artist new freedoms within old forms. Our mission is to devise and create new work, support and perform existing material by female composers, and bring new and accessible operatic works to audiences. Forte Chicago is also passionate about providing training for female artists and invests time in exploring our boundaries as an ensemble in order to find the particular “forte” of each individual artist.
Our designers, directors and performers have worked with companies as varied as Redmoon Theater, 42nd Parallel Orchestra, Trap Door Theater, The Piven Theatre, Chicago Opera Theater, The El Paso Opera and The Santa Fe Opera.
Forte Chicago also proudly hosts the workshop series Unleash Your Inner Diva: A Workshop for Singers, where performers learn to move beyond the limits of their formal, classical training and find new freedom in their creative expression.
